About Me

Hi there! I’m Bob – AKA TheGrayGeezer out of North Carolina, USA. I’m a retired, 70 year old computer nerd that now trades stock options and likes to work in my yard and tend my garden.

You can stop reading right here, or if you want additional history, continue on. Just remember – YOU chose to continue reading. 🙂

I’ve had a long, diverse working career that spans such things as being a truck driver, a machinist, a data analysist for Dow Jones and Company, a Department of Defense contractor, and I’ve been a database administrator for various companies and government agencies. Let’s see… I was also a Unix systems analysist and an assembly / C developer back in the 70’s when UNIX first escaped from Bell Labs and the only programming manual available was the thin, white book ‘C’ by Kernighan and Ritchie. (And I still prefer vi over emacs, thank you very much.)

Hmm. More? I wrote some accounting and billing stuff in COBOL for the state of New Jersey. Punched lots of cards worth of Fortran code in college. Wrote lots of embedded code for the PSTN that might still be used today to route your cell phone calls to the number you dialed. Did a Turbo-Pascal to ‘C’ conversion of a product called Metastock, which included one of the first known releases of an indicator called Bollinger bands. I was fortunate enough to work with one of the first ten IBM PCs that were ever released (via an employee purchase program) and I owned a TRS-80 model 1 starting the week they were first released. Ran a BBS back in the 300-1200-2400-9600 baud modem FidoNet days

I’m a semi-pro photographer and have had my work displayed in various government offices. I don’t do so well at photography these days due to an automobile accident that left me with major and uncorrectable vision damage to my dominate eye. (Photography is strictly “autofocus” for me these days.) Until recently I was a licensed gunsmith and FFL. And last but definitely not least, I’m a former United States Marine,

I could go on and on here, but honestly, my very first two sentence paragraph pretty well wraps things as they stand these days. Enjoy the blog and please bear with me as I stumble my way through learning about WordPress and blogging.
